Home Sweet Santa Maria, Normal Missionary... Sort Of
Well everyone... It's Monday again! You know what that means..... you get to endure another one of my weekly emails.
So it's also transfers again. Kinda crazy. It's like I just got back here to good ole Santa Maria. Well that's OK because I'm staying here! That's right. Last transfer, and I'm dying in Santa Maria. OK but get this, I'm no longer a zone leader. They changed the zone leader area. Crazy huh!?!?
So I'm gunna be comps with an Elder named Elder Nunley. This will be his second transfer. That's why I said "normal missionary,... Sort of". I'll be his follow up trainer. He was in my district last transfer. His trainer was the district leader. Now he's one of the zone leaders here. Elder Teichert is going down to good old Moorpark. Still to be a ZL haha.
Happy national pretzel day on Tuesday! We went to the mall, this soft pretzel place. They were free! They were good!
I made some swimmy pigs for lunch on Wednesday! They were SSSOOOO GGOOOODDD! For those of you who don't know what swimmy pigs are, go ask my parents. Just kidding. I mean you totally can if you want, they would love it. So swimmy pigs are also known as Smokies. They are those little hot dog things cooked in BBQ sauce in a crock pot for a few hours with whatever seasoning or whatever else you want to add.
We had this good lesson with this 9 year old we are teaching named Erick. We brought the branch president's wife with us. Erick said he could come to church in person next week. Erick is pretty mature for being 9 it's kinda crazy!
We had a visit that night with a recent convert named Rocio. Rocio was raised as a Jahovah Witness. Her family is still all Jahovah Witnesses. She was a JW for 12 years, but we found out she was never actually baptized a JW. She actually got a blood transfusion, which is a no go for JWs. I know weird. You could be dying and in need of a blood transfusion, and they would kick you out of your church. That's basically what happened to Rocio. I know, weird. JWs also don't celebrate birthdays or holidays. Ya I know. I'm not exactly sure why. We actually had a conversation with this dude yesterday who was telling us that he doesn't like JWs, out of all the religions. If you are a JW, explain some things to me that I don't understand.
Anyway, back to Rocio. I was actually the one to baptize her a year ago. Pretty cool huh. No that's not what I was getting at. So Rocio talks to her JW sister a lot. They talk a lot about the Bible and religion. Rocio puts up a fight though. She is solid. She then will take the things her sister said to us to see what we have to say about it. For example. The JWs don't believe in the second coming. Obviously we do. So that is something that Rocio's sister asked her about. So Rocio asked us where in the Bible it talks about the second coming. We told her in Revelations. Also the next day I was reading in the Book of Mormon. There are several chapters in The BOM that are exactly the same as some Bible chapters. (Another testimony that The BOM and the Bible work together). The chapter (2 Nephi 12) in the BOM is one of those chapters. It was talking about the second coming. It was referenced to Isaiah 2. I looked in the Bible and sure enough, the second coming. You should go read that chapter. It is one of the few Isaiah chapters that is not impossible to understand. "I delight in Plainness" - Nephie.
We had to stop teaching some people this week. :(
We saw a dude run from the cops.
We talked to this funny dude on the street who tried to tell us that a little bit of alcohol isn't bad. And ya, a small amount probably won't get you drunk but it's still not good for you. He also tried to tell us that hamburgers are bad for you. I also convinced him I was from Chile. Haha.
I hit my head pretty hard and oh dang sorry this email is really long OK bye!
