The Heroes Save The Dog, Pick Up Soccer, $8!!!
Hey what's good everyone!?!?!
I'll tell you what's good... Mexican food!!
On Saturday, we had an Elders Quorum activity. First we dusted the church a little bit, then we played some soccer, then we ate food! We had Carne asada, these thick sausage things, of course Tortillas and salsa, ya and some salad! Wow, let me tell ya it was GGGGOOOOODDDD food!! Speaking of food, our branch has been struggling to set up member dinners for the missionaries. So we take matters in to our own hands and hit up some of my member friends that I've known for almost a year now in Santa Maria. So last night we went to this Hermanas house. Dang, she had classic rice and beans, this really good casserole thing, and Izzis! Like what in the world! I haven't seen one of those for 2 years! It feels weird to say "almost 2 years".
So the other day we were out street contacting. Every Latino does yard sales on Saturday mornings and afternoons here in Santa Maria. So like every block we saw another yard sale. Most of them are just old clothes and some other random stuff. But every now and then you will find something good. For example, I don't remember if I told this story, but a week or so ago we found a yard sale and this lady was selling tons of DVDs and video games. Disc's that you would buy for like $60! Especially like Xbox 360 and PS 2 games that are not even made any more. Those are valuable. But every disc was $1. It felt kind of like robbing this Mexican lady. Unfortunately I only had $1. So I picked something good. Anyways. So this week we were looking at a yard sale and I saw this sick looking sword. If any of you know me, I like knives and swords. I asked the guy how much. He said $10. I'm like 'a ver' I hadn't even pulled out my wallet yet to see if I had that much cash and he's like "$8 llévalo". I'm like "bet". So ya. Elder Teichert as we were walking to our car that was conveniently right around the corner is like " I can't believe you walked away with a sword for $8." Ya I could sell it for like 25 or 30. But I won't, so don't even think about it. I'll put a picture of it at the end of this email.
So yesterday was pretty slow for a Sunday. But that night, we took this youth out with us again for a lesson. This kid just turned $18 and is preparing to go on a mission. Not surprisingly the guy we were going to visit was about to leave to do something. So we just walked around a bit. Just talking to some people and chatting with our future missionary. We were walking past this small parking lot area and these kids shouted out to us, "you wanna play some soccer with us?" I'm like "yes!" My comp has been playing soccer for basically his whole life, so it's fun to have him on your team. So ya that was fun and we got this kids number. He said he would like to come to sports night.
So we played soccer this week at sports night, on Saturday at the Elders Quorum activity, and a pick up game on Sunday with the homes on the street.
We were walking around one day and this little dog started walking with us. We just kept walking for a bit and it just followed us. Eventually we stopped and looked at the tag. We called the owner who was very nice and grateful. She offered to venmo me, but I told her I didn't have a venmo (as a missionary anyway, if you wanna buy some honey go hit me up on venmo ; )
We started teaching a few new people this week. That's always exciting! One of the guys we are teaching and his wife just had a baby, so we're not sure he will be unavailable for another lesson. We are going to have a lesson this week with David to tell him if he won't progress we can't keep coming over. One of our newer people mentioned last time we taught him that he may be moving to Paso Robles, but wasn't sure when. He never told us that he moved this week. We actually found out from our future missionary who was with us last Sunday when we taught this guy. We asked our third comp if he could come to a lesson again with this guy. He said that new guy texted him and told him he moved. You got to love the communication skills of some people. Literally, new guy didn't speak much Spanish so future missionary had to translate the introduction to the Book of Mormon into Mixteco in that last lesson - Only two people we are teaching came to church. It was really sad.
I know, this email got long.
I love and miss you all, we'll see you soon!!
