New Friends And Drunk Dudes
OK everyone, I bet you can't wait to read this one based on the title Well, me neither!
So we had a good week!
So last Monday night we had this really good spiritual lesson with these investigators we are teaching. We reviewed baptism and stuff. It was really good. They were crying at the end of the lesson. No joke the spirit was there and testifying of the truthfullness of this stuff.
The next day we had some lessons fall, but we did a lot of talking to people outside. Basicly, there is this big long main road call Broadway. And there are like 3 or 4 food trucks on Broadway. Ya know, Mexican food. So all these Latinos are at these trucks getting food. Well they have to wait for the food to be ready. That's where we come in. We just walk along Broadway and talk to these Latinos waiting for their food. Sometimes people just run away from us on the streets, but these people can't leave, because their food. So it was like a game. Have a good conversation. Set up a visit and get their number before their food was ready and they could run away. It was great! There was lots of people, and there are three of us, so it was like devide and conquer. We were walking to our car when we saw this drunk man laying face down in this parking lot. At first we are like "what are we going to do"? Then Elder Wilcox is like "let's go". So we walked over to him. We talked to him a bit. We offered him some water. He talked a lot, but basicly just kept telling us that we were amazing. Honestly, not much we could do. He said he had no family or friends to call. So after a bit we left him with our card, some water, and told him not to drive for a little bit.
So we had a visit the next day after dinner. I don't remember what I ate, but ya know I was good, I was full. So this young girl open the door. We ask for her grandma. She leaves and comes back a minute latter and says "do you want to come in for dinner". You can't say no to Mexicans offering you food. So we go in. There is quite a lot of family in the back yard grilling Carne Asada and chicken with homemade tortillas. Let me tell ya, they were to die for!! We were basicly kings! My greenie Elder Wilcox was is heaven! The next lesson was with Eloy and Maria, and they gave us pizza. The next lesson, we get there. This dude with no shirt and a chain answers the door. All of a sudden we get a big whif of what smells like weed and cologne mixed. He sent out his uncle who we were looking for. His uncle Simon is so cool! He's a bro!
Next day we started teaching 2 new people! They're super cool! Elder Wilcox made stacked enchiladas for lunch. We knocked on this one door. The door was mostly glass. We saw a lady come up to the door, lock it and walk back in to the kitchen, like what is your deal?
Friday was awesome! We had Combined District Council, I got to talk again. It was actually pretty good. We had a zone swap, which is basicly an exchange with anyone in the zone. So you could be paired up with any other missionary in the zone for the day. (Elders with elders, sisters with sisters/Hermanas). I was with one of the zone leaders in his area. We went out for dinner to this place called "805 tacos". It was fire! I wanted to try brain tacos but they were out.) : So there was this song that they played that I liked. So I asked the lady at the bar what it was called. She sent me over to this drunk dude and his buddy at the bar. He was running his play lists. So we talked music for a while in spanglish. Long story short, they are both not interested, but I got some Spanish songs for my "when I get home list". We had some real cool lessons, and then sports night. So the ZLs are in our same branch so same sports night. So one of our friends we are teaching named Brian came. He's like "I'm not that great I haven't played in 2 years" He was keeping up with the best guy who comes to sports night! That night, we had "family zone evening". It was so much fun! Basicly the whole zone back together in person to talk about the day and share miracles and stories from our days. It was a blast, and so funny!!
The next day, we did some unnessasary driving. We had this supper cool lesson with this family. We read the intro the Book of Mormon with them. The were reading ahead and had awesome questions and comments. Well we had a lesson with Simon again. He was like 1 1/2 hours late, but we met his nephew Jonathan who was open to listening to us and super receptive. So we started talking to him. Then Simon finally came home. We then shared another lesson. These two are sssooo cool! They have some great potential!
Sunday we had 8 lessons set up. All fell through except for 2. So we started teaching 2 dudes both named Jose! We had this to die for member dinner. Very traditinal Mexican food! SOOOOO GOOOOOD!
Anyways, sorry this email is so long! This week felt so fast but a lot happened!
I love and miss you all lots!
