Still Here, ID?, Hidden City, Getting Lost, And Extra Dinner!
Hello all of my favorite people! Another week bites the dust!
Well first off let's explain this probably too long title. "Still here", So transfers are this week. I am staying here in Santa Maria! Crazy huh! Let's just step back and look at this a sec, I've been a missionary for a year (that still seems weird). First 5 transfers in Thousand Oaks (7 1/2 months). By the end of this transfer I will have been in Santa Maria for 4 transfers (6 months). That's 2 areas in about 14 months! I'm getting a new comp named Elder Robles. I've never met him but I've heard good things about him. He will be my second native companion. I'm pretty sure there are only two or 3 natives in the mission. "ID?" So we went with a member and Eloy and Maria to the city office in SM. They said that Eloy and Maria need to go to Oxnard to get a updated ID in order to buy a marriage lisence. This ment they couldn't get married and no baptizm on Saturday. :( So Eloy has been trying to call Oxnard to get an appointment down there. He says they're pretty backed up and can't get him in for a few weeks. So bummer but I'll be here another 6 weeks so I see it happening this transfer. "Hidden City" and "getting lost", these go together. So we were driving around Nipomo to try and find someone's house. Long drive short, we go to where maps takes us. We were driving on these backroads in the middle of nothing fields. All of a sudden there is this place. Really we thought it could be a lil city. It was this big neighborhood on neighborhood, Like a Colony of nice houses and a bunch of older people walking around. Then a cushy private golf course. Then another big public golf course. Turns out the house we were looking for didn't exist. Same thing happened the next day. We were looking for a house that didn't exist but just normal Nipomo fields and middle of no where. "Extra dinner", So we had two lessons this week where we were just ya know having a good lesson and these people we are teaching are like "hey do you want dinner?" You know me, so we had dinner with these awesome people. One of these dinners with Pedro was yesterday right after we had this AMAZING dinner with our branch president and his family. Let me just say all Latinos I have ever eaten with know how to cook! Let's just say we ate pretty well this weekend! Also the other day we get a call from the hermanas. They started with" we feel really bad", I'm like uh oh. They said that they had this dinner that a member made and dropped off for them. They said they didn't have an appetite and that they didn't like left overs. They asked if Elder Palmer and I wanted these tacos. We were thinking we already had a member dinner that night but I love left overs. So we went and snagged that from the hermanas. It's good to know we are the favorite elders. The member who lives right by us was giving us lots of food throughout the week.
Wow this email is long already and I've only explained the title.
This week felt fast but also Tuesday and Wednesday felt slow.
Friday was pretty good. We had combined district council that morn. That's where our zone gets together and has some discussions and stuff. That was good! It was the last Friday of the transfer. On the last Friday we all go to Panda Express so we can get a fortune cookie to tell us where we are going for transfers. "Fortune Friday". Our branch was doing a family history class that night so we went to a little bit of that. Some recent converts came. We had a lesson and then sports night.
Our people we are teaching are all good. We have been working to explain Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon a lot to one of our people. But slowly but surly he seems to be getting it. You know about Eloy and Maria. We are also teaching a few other couples. Alfedo and Lourdes are our most consistant people. They are cool. All these Latinos are all so hospitable it's fun!
Well this is getting long. We'll I love and miss you all lots! Have an AMAZING week!
