Catholics, More Food, And A Tough Break Up
Hello everyone! I hope all of you are well!
I feel like a lot happened this week.
First let's start with the title.
We meet a lot of Catholics out here. Especially in Spanish work. There's a lot of them! Some are more Catholic than others. For example. We talked to this one dude on his driveway. He was very stubborn. He said that he won't even consider another book besides the Bible. He said he doesn't ever read the Bible but if it's not the Bible he won't believe it. So basicly he believes in the Bible and the Catholic church but has never read the Bible and doesn't go to church. Here's the lesson in this. Don't judge something just on what you have heard about it from the internet or wherever. Give it a fair chance. We were talking about the Book of Mormon. All of you reading this email, if you haven't read the Book of Mormon, it won't hurt to just read a little bit of it, even just the introduction. Then you can decide.
OK now an example of the other end of the Catholics. We talked to a guy yesterday. He was very nice. He built a large cross/shrine looking out at this field and the mountains. He is pretty devoted to God. His ways are different than ours but his heart is in the right place.
We met a Catholic who was also very nice. She was asking us a lot about the differences between our faiths.
We had a viz with a Catholic who again was respectfull but just not interested in our message.
We have also met Catholics who are very Bashy.
Basicly what I'm saying is that there are lots of really good nice people out there of all faiths. There are also those who are not so nice.
Well that was longer than expected.
A member took us out to Cracker Barrel on Tuesday, which doesn't usually happen but hey, it was good. We got more food from the member who lives right by us. We had some great member dinners this weekend. One of them was breakfast for dinner. Again all of you reading this email, invite the missionaries to dinner. They will love you for it!
As far as the tough break up. We had a lesson the other day with one of our most progressing people, Pedro. He started telling us that he doesn't feel like he could be a member of the Church for a few reasons. He told us that basicly he needs a break from our lessons. I've known him the whole 5 months I have been here in Santa Maria. He has always been so awesome and hospitable. Hopefully in the future he can find the missionaries again.
OK so do you remember Eloy and Maria. So longer story shorter. Maria said she wants to be baptized too! We still need to get them married. They have to get an ID first. We found out that we can do that here at the DMV. So we're going to do that on Thursday. Next we need to go to the Santa Maria city office and get a Marriage licence. Then the office can do the ordinance, cuz there's a new thing that leaders in our church can't do a legal Marriage any more. I don't really know, some political reason. Next we dunk them. They came to church again. They are AMAZING!!!
I love and miss you all more than you know!
