Week One
Hola amigos,
Week one of MTC done. So Let me tell you that the MTC is not easy! It has ups and downs. You have up days and down days. After day one I was a mess, but after making fun of all the dogs at my house and talking I felt better. They have been nice here at the MTC, they have done all they can to make me feel at home here. So Schedule wise I have classes with my district (in Spanish), classes with other missionaries at the MTC (English), personal study, language study, comp study, TRCs (practice teaching lessons to a pretend investigator(actor)) (not every day), tutoring (available to all MTC missionaries as much as they want and whatever times are available on the tutoring schedule).
There are only 5 missionaries in my district including me probably because we are the advanced Spanish speakers/classes (which can be tough). My companion's name is Elder Burton. He is really cool. He lives in Holladay, which is not too far from me so I went down to hang out with him for a few hours today. Which was fun. we went to habit burger, played pool (8 ball and 9 ball)
Storytime. So On Saturday, we had only our morning class (9-12) with our district and not our night class (5:45-8:45) because it was the fourth of July. So I had comp study after class, but after that I had the rest of the day to celebrate with the fam. So Ya they came over but also My best bud Elder Max Osmand came over. He and I went on a hike. So as he and I were driving up Big Pole trail in my Jeep when all a sudden a razor comes flying around the corner! I swerved right, he swerved left (his right) and I could hear Them yell "WHHOOWW" We missed. I was going like 10 MPH but he was probably going like 25 or 30 which is kinda fast for going down a one-lane trail around a corner that he for sure could not see around or else we would have seen each other more than 2 seconds in advance. For those 2ish seconds, my car rollover and the hospital flashed in my head. That kinda thing is kinda terrifying. After he flew by I stopped the car for a second to compose myself. I was in shock. You know when your chest starts to feel warm, ya that happened, and Max and I looked at each other and just wow. so guys what do we learn from this other than don't go so fast on a narrow trail around a corner you can't see around? God is in the details of our lives. Guys, I was there I know that that dude was going too fast and there was not enough space on the trail. I had that intense feeling. If you are ever wondering if God is in the details of our lives just look at my life for a sec, it's PROOF of this. Dead would not adequately describe me if God was not in the detail of our lives. Guys and I know not everything works out and is all hunky-dory all time trust me, but God has a plan for all of us. He is in control. I'll attach a few pics from our hike. That night we did games and fireworks, it was a good time.
Some scriptures I liked this week. Moroni 10:5 D&C 84:88 (that section has lots of great stuff) Like all of Alma 26 and Alma 48:15-25
A talk I liked. "Lord I Believe" by Elder Holand (recommended by Max) I loved this talk I highly recommend it.
Quotes from the week. "You must be your first convert" Elder Holand. "The best medicine for despair is service" - President Hinckley. " I am not asking you to pretend faith you do not have, I am asking you to the faith you do have" "Don't let questions stand in way of faith working its miracle" " You have more faith than you think you do" - President Holland. "Standardized tests are like testing a fish on climbing a tree" - Elder Burton "When it is all about you it gets pretty lonely" - Elder Jordan
Anyway, I'm doing well. Please email me whenever with questions or saying hi or whatever anytime you want I would love to hear from you! Email me at andrew.felsted@missionary.org
